These are a few of my favorite things...
BMW Motorcycle Clubs
- VBMWMO — Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners. I besides just my interest in vintage BMWs, I am the webmaster and editor/publisher of the club's newsletter, The Vintage BMW Bulletin.
- BMWMOA — BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. The larger of the two national BMW motorcycle clubs.
- BMWRA — BMW Riders Association International. The smaller of the two national BMW clubs. RA is sometimes said to mean "Right Attitude", just as their magazine, OTL, On The Level, is said to also mean Out To Lunch or even Over The Line.
- The informalBay Area Vintage Group. We meet for breakfast every Saturday at Groeger Special Tooling in Redwood City. Joe Groeger is our vintage bike guru, and he can fix or advise about BMWs from plunger frames to airheads.
- MBBR — Monterey Bay BMW Riders. This smallish club is very active, with breakfast meetings every Saturday and monthly rides. (I'm not actually a member any more, see previous entry, but I do support them!)
- WSBMWR — Washington State BMW Riders club. My former club when I lived in Seattle. Great people, very active, and a wonderful Cascade Country Rendezvous rally each year.
BMW Dealers & Independents
- Ted Porter's BeemerShop. The local independent shop specializing in BMWs. Ted has over 20 years experience working on BMWs, both independently and working for several dealers. Disclaimer: I do Ted's website.
- West Valley Cycle Sales. Laurie and Don have sold me every new BMW I've bought, and treat me like family. This is a very small, old fashioned shop in the middle of LA's suburbia, but look at the b&w photos on the wall and you can see when the area was nothing but chicken ranches. They are BMW's oldest continuous dealer in the US. Disclaimer: I also do West Valley's website.
- BMW of Santa Cruz County. My local dealer. They have a good selection of bikes and parts.
- Bench Mark Works. Craig "Vech" Vechorik is probably the best source for parts, service and just plain know how about vintage BMWs. Not only that, but he will just talk to you on the phone about it! He's an incredible resource, practically an institution!
- Mark Huggett GmbH. Mark, based in a tiny village in Switzerland, supplies much of the vintage BMW reproduction parts that BMW then provides through their dealers.
